South Carolina American Legion Baseball mourns the passing of William “Bill” Brewer of Manning, a legendary coach, mentor and longtime advocate for American Legion Baseball in South Carolina.
A graduate of Manning High School, Brewer dedicated more than 35 years to Manning-Santee American Legion Post 68, serving as a coach and athletics director. Throughout his career, he made a lasting impact on generations of young athletes, both on and off the baseball field.
Brewer was part of the Post 68 team that captured its first American Legion Baseball State Championship in 2002, establishing a milestone that remains an important part of Manning-Santee’s proud baseball history.
His dedication and service to American Legion Baseball were recognized with his induction into the inaugural class of the South Carolina American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023. In 2025, the South Carolina House of Representatives further honored his lifetime of service by proclaiming May 22 as “Bill Brewer Day” in South Carolina.
Brewer also served as a South Carolina American Legion Committeeman and as a member of the South Carolina American Legion Baseball State Committee, continuing to contribute his experience, leadership and passion to the program he loved.
His influence reached far beyond wins and championships. Bill Brewer was a coach, mentor, leader and friend whose dedication helped shape American Legion Baseball in South Carolina for more than three decades.
South Carolina American Legion Baseball extends its deepest condolences to Bill’s family, friends, former players, fellow coaches and the entire Manning-Santee community. His legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched and the young athletes he helped guide.
